How to Get Started

If you are already registered for Online Access, simply login to your Online Account and select New Current Account from the balances screen to open an account alternatively call into our offices and you can open an account in branch. If you are not registered for Online Access, please register first (check the"Further details" section below to learn more).

What documents do I have to present to Register for Online Banking?

You can call into any Killarney Credit Union branch at Beech Road, Kenmare or Cahersiveen and bring the following:

  1. Photographic ID: current driving licence, a current passport or other suitable form of Photographic ID.
  2. Address: Dated in the last 6 months, a utility bill, government letter or bank statement.

As credit unions are not a specified entity listed under the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2008 (the 2008 act as amended) we can not accept the Public Services Card.

What documents do i have to present to Become a Member?

Important: You have to live or work in Our Common Bond.

Bring in the following:

  1. Photographic ID: current driving licence, a current passport or other suitable form of Photographic ID.
  2. Address: dated in the last 6 months, a utility bill, government letter or bank statement.
  3. PPS Number: Proof of P60, P45, Payslip, Medical Card or correspondence from the tax office.

As credit unions are not a specified entity listed under the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2008 (the 2008 act as amended) we can not accept the Public Services Card.

Will I receive a physical ATM Card?

A Debit Mastercard® accompanies the current account. The card will be sent to you by post, followed by a PIN by post a few days later. This Debit Mastercard® is linked to your new Current Account only and not to your existing Shares (Savings) or 98 Account. In the case of joint accounts, two debit cards can be issued on the one joint account.

Can I use the Card for shopping in other currencies?

To comply with the European Commission’s Regulation 518/2019, debit card issuers located in the EEA are required to disclose to their cardholders through an electronic platform the % mark-up between their FX rates, including any issuer related fees, and the exchange rate published by the European Central Bank (ECB) for the same currency pair. Overdrafts

Deal with unexpected expenses

An overdraft is a short-term way to borrow money on your current account and can help in months where things get a little tight e.g. if you receive a higher than expected bill and need a bit longer to repay it.

You can apply for an overdraft on your Current Account from €200.00 up to a maximum of €5,000.00.

The interest rate is 12% pa variable. Interest is only charged on overdrawn balances. Your credit union does not currently apply surcharge interest (surcharge interest is charged by some Financial Institutions on unauthorised overdrawn balances.

An overdraft fee of €25.00 is charged on approval and on each anniversary of the overdraft approval date. Overdrafts are subject to financial status and are not available to persons under 18 years of age.

Credit facilities are subject to repayment capacity and financial status and are not available to persons under 18 years of age. Security may be required. An overdraft facility fee of €25 per annum or per overdraft sanction, whichever is the more frequent will be applied. Overdrafts are subject to normal underwriting and lending criteria. Current Account Fees and Charges

Fees and charges are payable on current accounts. (please refer to "Schedule of Fees and Charges" document available to download further down this page). Members aged 66 years and over and full-time students aged 12 years to 25 years inclusive are eligible to free banking.

Points to note about Current Accounts
  • Current Account can be opened for an individual or joint accounts (two persons) only.
  • Members aged 12-16 inc. can open a Current Account with parental/guardian consent in one of our three branches.
  • Current Accounts to businesses, club and society or group accounts cannot be opened.
  • Your Current Account is not eligible for a dividend.
  • Current Account does not qualify for our insurance cover so only keep sufficient funds for everyday banking, all other funds should remain in your Shares (Savings) Account.
  • Current Account has its own IBAN and BIC which can be used.
  • It has a fully functional debit card with globally accepted Mastercard® Debit Card that can be used at any ATM and Point of Sale including online and contactless payments.
  • You can manage your current account transfer and payments via online banking and mobile app.
  • You can apply for an overdraft facility on your current account of up to €5,000. For those aged 18 or older Lending Terms & Conditions apply.
  • You will need to use your Eircode when completing application form.
  • A valid mobile number is required for account authorisation requests and verification.
A few further helpful tips
  • Your current account, debit card and overdraft facility, where applicable, provide convenient methods of making and receiving day-to-day payments.
  • Get Cashback of up to €100 with purchases at participating retailers and avoid ATM transaction fees.
  • Use contactless payments for quick low value purchases.
  • Arrange for your salary, pension, welfare payments or other income to be paid into your current account to ensure funds are always available.
  • Save time and set up direct debits for regular bills.
  • Make secure cashless payments using your debit card, online and mobile app.
  • Access and download account statements online and avoid the need for duplicates or paper copies.
  • Avoid referral item fees and unpaid fees by: (a) maintaining sufficient funds in your account or (b) applying for an overdraft facility.
  • Plan ahead, know your payment dates and check your account balance regularly.
  • Be aware that cheques and other paper lodgements can take several working days before funds are available for withdrawal and similarly authorised transactions may remain pending before reducing your actual account balance.
  • Missed borrowing repayments made from your current account and regularly operating outside the terms of an existing overdraft facility may affect your credit rating and access to future credit.
Online Banking/Mobile App

We also ask you to apply for Online Banking as this will help you keep track of your transactions online, allowing you to transfer money into and out of your accounts.

You can sign up for e-statements, view transactions and set up payees and pay bills online.

Once you are registered for Online Banking you can download our Mobile App for mobile banking on the go.
